Chappo ~ Psychedelic Garage Band With a Gypset Sound

CHAPPO is a Brooklyn-based psychedelic-garage-rock-pop-band that is fun and quirky. They are a group of humorous guys that don’t take themselves too seriously; however, they create seriously incredible music. Baton Rouge native Alex Chappo is the bands namesake, and he plays alongside guitarist Dave Feddock, keyboardist Chris Olson, and drummer Zac Colwell.

Chappo is continuing their US tour, with recent venues including the Surf Lodge in Long Island, NY and the Bowery Ballroom, in New York City. With more and more exposure and press, these fun-finding, carefree guys are searching for balance between their love of music and the business side of life– something to which we can all realte. As the press rolls on and their fame grows, the guys remain interested in what their fans and new listeners feel while listening to their music.

In regards to their full-length album put out last year, Chris Olson (keyboardist) says:

“We’re always interested in what people hear in this new group of songs. It’s definitely all over the board as far as what we were listening to when we recorded it. There’s definitely ’70s German krautrock, dance stuff, ’60s psychedelic soul influences. We’re interested in what kind genre people hear in all of it because we feel like there’s a bunch of different things people can hone in on.”

Their fusion of various musical instruments and methods make for a unique sound. Their tunes are refreshing and perfectly gyspet. In addition to their musical prowess, they continue to be visually inspiring. Many times busy jet-setting bands create music videos that can take on the feel of an afterthought; Chappo, however, does not waste the opportunity to create something visually intriguing. It is a wonderful  complement to their musical tastes. Their videos are fun, trippy,  and at times, uniquely hilarious.
