Gorgeous Berber Rugs from Palais Saadiens

When I traveled to Marrakech in May, I had an AMAZING time perusing the goods at all of the souks in the Medina. There are so many unbelievably beautiful textiles, jewelry, and rugs. One gem I discovered was the Palais Saadiens, where I found some gorgeous Berber rugs to bring back Stateside. Every where you look in this store it’s an explosion of the most amazing hues of every color imaginable all sourced from natural products such as saffron and henna.

Carpets have a very rich cultural history in Morocco. Historically, when a woman married, she made her own carpet– weaving together family tradition and hours of careful work. The term “Berber” refers to the original Moroccan carpets from the Berber tribe indigenous to North Africa. These rugs are decorated with a variety of geometric patterns and vibrant colors. Each carpet is a unique piece of art made from wool and can take up to a year and a half to make. Needless to say I couldn’t come home without one or two, or three or four. 😉

I love Berbers because they are a beautiful way to anchor any room, and even better– they are reversible! 🙂 Generally one side is the “winter side” and one is the “summer side.” Love it! They are the perfect addition to any room for a little bit of a boho eye candy.

Palais Saadiens is a must-stop shop on your tour of the souks when in Marrakech. Here you will find tremendous diversity, both in the color and style of these magnificent rugs–not to mention the most fantastic people to work with to help you find the right rugs for your home. They can also assist in having them shipped easily and inexpensively to your doorstep.
