There are so many problems in the world that are seemingly unsolvable, but clean water is not one of them. Pro surfer, Jon Rose (founder of Waves For Water), proves that providing access to clean water for people living in impoverished areas is entirely possible. He has teamed up with large non-profits and government agencies to make his vision a reality.

Waves for Water, or W4W, was established with the goal of taking already existing solutions (in the form of portable water filters) into countries that need them most. So far, the non-profit has managed to distribute 100,000 filters to dozens of countries around the world.

Rose knew that he had to continue growing W4W after his eye opening experience following the earthquake in Sumatra. Rose was en route to Bali to pass out filters for what would have been his first W4W mission when the quake struck. He went into Padang (the epicenter of the quake) and found himself handing out his water filters to rescue workers so they could be distributed to wounded victims.

The filtration systems implemented in these impoverished areas are portable, easy to use, easy to pack, and effective. One filter can provide 100 people with clean water for up to five years– a clear solution to a global problem.

There are many options for anyone looking to get involved with Waves for Water. In addition to making a cash donation and purchasing a filter, you can become a Clean Water Courier. Becoming a Clean Water Courier allows you to get your own filters to distribute during your travels. This is a perfect opportunity to give back to the lands, places, and people that impact us so greatly. It is our chance as global community to make a difference and spread the word about this simple clean water solution.
