Gypset Lifestyle ~ Tequila? No Mezcal, Ilegal Mezcal

Illegal Mezcal photo

Tequila is sooooo last year! Once you’ve tried Ilegal Mezcal (a small batch artisanal Mezcal) you’ll forget why you ever sipped, did a shot of, or ever added tequila to your margarita. I recently was introduced to this liquid seductress by a friend who is a connoisseur of Mezcal. She began by explaining to me the history of this spirit.

Ilegal Mezcal started as a journey full of banditos, river rafts,  bribes, disguises, and late night drop points. Desperate for a good  Mezcal to stock at his bar, Café No Sé, John Rexer began  smuggling artisanal Mezcal from Oaxaca, Mexico to Antigua, Guatemala in 2004.”

And so it began. Typical of people living the Gypset Lifestyle, it was soon being taken from Guatemala in the luggage of travelers, writers,  and photographers passing from Guatemala to New York, London,  Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Sydney. This helped to get the attention of the press, such as the New York Times, Maxim, The Wall Street Journal and Playboy, just to name a few– giving Ilegal Mexcal the ‘cred’ to become legal and available in some of the finest bars, restaurants, and liquor stores throughout the world!

They say you don’t find Mezcal, Mezcal finds you. I hope you get found and Ilegal is a great place to start!
